TRAINING EVERYDAY BEHAVIORS

Desensitize and Counter-Condition Nail Trims

Dr. Colleen Koch demonstrates how to desensitize and counter-condition a dog to nail trimming. Desensitization and counterconditioning (DS/CC) helps change the pets perception of the process.  This video illustrates the step-by-step process from introducing the nail trimmer to your pet, how to offer treats during training, and how to properly trim the nail.

Clicker Training Nail Trims

Do you dread trimming your pet's nails?  Does your pet hate visiting the groomer or vet for nail trims?  Check out the following video of Laura VanArendonk Baugh, CPDT KPACTP of Canines in Action training a dog to enjoy nail trims.  With the power of clicker training, Laura transforms this pup into a willing partner for nail trims.

Shaping Polite Walking

The following 3 videos created by Lynn Martin and Helix Fairweather, both KPA CPT, demonstrate how to shape "polite walking." Please view parts 1, 2, & 3.  Visit cyberagility.com for more information!

Loose Leash Walking

Similar to polite walking, this video features trainer Casey Lomonaco KPA-CTP, APDT of Rewarding Behaviors Dog Training demonstrating how to teach your dog to walk on a loose leash.  Check out parts I & II.

Bath Time

Dr. Colleen uses clicker training with some targeting and shaping to teach Benjamin Bear to get in and out of the bath tub.

Teaching Leave It

This video demonstrates how to teach your pet to "leave it;" to disregard a resource and focus attention on you.  It originates from Bridges Dog Training of Los Angeles.

Teaching Targeting

Created by Ken Ramirez of Shedd Aquarium, this video shows you how to teach targeting to your dog as well as several useful applications for targeting.

Capturing Behaviors

Here, our good friend and trainer at "Clicking at Curly's," David Thatcher KPA-CTP, teaches how to capture behaviors.  Capturing is when your pet does something you like and you "mark" the behavior when it is offered rather than prompting or luring.

Shaping & Cueing

Another video courtesy of David Thatcher KPA-CTP of "Clicking at Curlys," shaping demonstrates how to build a behavior one step at a time.
