Our pets have a shorter lifespan than us; we stress the importance of twice a year check ups- remember that one of our years is equal to 7 of their years! Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We stress, low stress handling and restraint. Every attempt is made to make your pet's experience a positive one! We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Comprehensive Examinations: Our doctors perform a complete nose to tail examination on all pets whether they are being seen for an illness or for vaccinations. By doing a thorough examination checking eyes, ears, throat, teeth, skin, lymph nodes, muscles, bones, body condition, urogenital, heart, lungs, respiration and pulse, doctors can detect abnormalities and address changes that may indicate early onset of disease processes.
Behavioral Counseling and training: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling, aggression and any other behavioral problem you may have with your pet. Dr. Colleen Koch is a member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior and is a Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner. We believe in positive training methods. Please look at our Behavior Brochure for specific services and our Behavior Page for information on our methods. Dr. Colleen is also seeing patients in the Peoria area.
Exotics, pocket pets, and other non-traditional pets: We offer routine as well as sickness exams, oral exams, basic care consultations and training of small mammals such as ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, prairie dogs, hedgehogs, and pigs. See our Small Mammal page for more information.
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. We provide innovative care through the use of electrocardiograms, blood pressure monitoring, eye pressure monitoring (to check for glaucoma), laser surgery, radiography and dental radiography, ultrasonography, photon therapy, and in-house blood analyzers.
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures including ovariohysterectomy (spay), castration (neuter), declaw, hernia repair, ear trim, lumpectomy, exploratories, c-sections, and eye tacks to name a few. Please visit our Surgical FAQ's page for additional information. We use gas anesthesia as a safer and precision controlled form of sedation. Each surgical patient has an intravenous catheter placed to ensure quick access to veins should emergency medication be necessary. Patients are monitored during surgery by ECG and a certified veterinary technician to ensure vitals remain within normal limits.
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures by a certified veterinary technician.
Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern x-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. Our staff is qualified to perform contrast radiographs and OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) certification films.
Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists.
Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental x-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.
Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, serology, urinalysis, dermatophyte and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.
Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification. We use the Res-Q system to implant a small chip underneath your pet's skin via injection. The chip contains a frequency which can be read by any universal scanner located in veterinary clinics, animal control centers and shelters around the world. A microchip ensures your pet will find his way home. Our microchips are ISO compliant meaning they meet the strictest guidelines and are universal so your pet can travel the world!
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. Any thing that you might need that we don't have we can special order.
Individualized Flea Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet. Check out this product comparison chart from our pet library.
Parasitology: We offer heartworm testing and fecal analysis to ensure your pet is parasite free. We recommend an annual heartworm test (via blood draw) and once a month heartworm prevention (oral medication) to prevent heartworm disease. The monthly heartworm prevention also protects your pet against intestinal parasites.
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
